Its Akshay versus Akshay on Republic Day next year

Believe it or not, Neeraj Pandey's untitled film which is yet to go on the floors will be released simultaneously with Sanjay Leela Bhansali's production of Gabbar which too stars Akshay Kumar. Neither of the two big projects is willing to move out of the coveted January 23, 2015 slot.

A source very close to Sanjay Bhansali says, "We decided that Gabbar is perfect as Republic Day release. We took a call on the release 3 months ago. Its theme is socio-political reform. It's the story of one man's crusade against corruption. Akshay, who has been doing a string of action-adventure entertainers, would be doing a film very relevant to the nation's conscience. And what better slot for this film than Republic day?"

Livid at Neeraj's film "jumping in" out of the blue, the source close to Bhansali fumes, "They haven't even shot a single frame and they decided to barge into our release date without any consideration for our film? It's highly unethical. We are not moving out at any cost. But we want to know how a film's release can be announced without shooting a single frame?"

Neeraj Pandey, who is currently in Mauritius, hunting for locations for his untitled Akshay Kumar starrer, says, "Fortunately or unfortunately, release dates are a great event in the box-office calendar. We've chosen to reserve January 23 as the release of our film although we haven't even started shooting the film."

When informed of the Gabbar release on the same day, Neeraj replies, "I am not aware of which other films are releasing that day. If Gabbar is also coming, we are fine with that."

Pandey also confirms that Tapsee Pannu would be playing the female lead opposite Akshay. "At the moment, I can only confirm Akshay and Tapsee. The rest of the cast is yet to be finalized."

Some interesting sidelights to the impending Akshay Versus Akshay clash:

•   Although during the year 1994, Akshay had 11 releases, this would be the first time two Akshay starrers releases on the same Friday.
•   Salman Khan's Jai Ho which released for Republic Day 2014 was also about socio-political cleansing. In both Gabbar and Jai Ho, the hero urges the masses to become more proactive in bettering the social system.
•   Both Gabbar and Neeraj Pandey's film star actresses from Tamil cinema trying to establish a foothold in Bollywood. Shruti Haasan and Tapsee Pannu are the Tamil queens seen as the rising stars in Bollywood.

Sabyasachis assistant to play Sushants wife in Detective Byomkesh Bakshi

After gaining popularity on small screen, Sushant Singh seems to be climbing the ladder of success in Bollywood quite quickly. The actor has bagged some meaty projects this year including YRF and Dibakar Banerjee's Detective Byomkesh Bakshy.

While he will be reprising the title role of Byomkesh, the details of the rest of the cast were being kept under wraps. Now, we hear that the assistant of popular designer Sabyasachi, Divya Menon, will be making her debut as an actress in this film. She has apparently been roped in to play the role of Byomkesh's wife. Adapted from a novel, this period film based in Kolkata will trace the journey of this young lad turning into a famous sleuth. Directed by Dibakar, Detective Byomkesh Bakshi is slated to release on February 13, 2015.

Bombay Velvet to release on November 28

A thrilled cast and crew of Bombay Velvet celebrated the wrap up of their shoot after they completed it recently. Being the magnum opus of Anurag Kashyap, the cast was excited about the fact that they could finish the schedule on time as per Anurag's vision. Hence, the film which was to release during Christmas Week has now been preponed to November 28.

In the times, where movies are constantly getting postponed for various reasons, this film has been running completely on schedule. Vijay Singh, CEO of Fox Star Studios, stated that this special film required an equally special release and hence will be hitting the silver screens in the Thanksgiving weekend. Based on the backdrop of the 70s, Bombay's charm of that era was re-created in Sri Lanka where the crew was stationed for a long period of time.

Directed by Anurag Kashyap, Bombay Velvet stars Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, Raveena Tandon, Karan Johar and Naseeruddin Shah among others.

Its been a long hard struggle - Hansal Mehta

The National award for Best Director for Hansal Mehta is huge vindication for this enormously talented director.

On hearing the announcement of the honour Hansal said, "I am glad I won the National award for Shahid and not for any other film. Shahid has changed my life. Making this film about this fearless lawyer has made me fearless. I don't think about any external circumstance any more. I'll just make the films that I want to. My life is now sharply divided into two halves. What came before and what will come after Shahid."

Hansal is doubly delighted that his leading man Rajkummar Rao won the National award for best actor for Shahid. "I feel my son has won the gold medal in the school sports. I don't think I'd have been this proud if I had won the National award, and not Raj. Shahid is a joint triumph for us."

The filmmaker who began his directorial career with Jayate in 1997 says he has no time to celebrate his triumph. "I want to host a party with Raj. But I am busy with the post-production of Citylights which again stars Rajkummar Rao. I'm pleading with my producer Mukesh Bhatt to give me one day off so we can celebrate."

Ends Hansal, "It's been a long hard struggle for me. I never expected Shahid to become so big. It has changed many lives including mine."

Sanjay Dutts flamboyant dinner exposed

A lengthy MMS clip showing Sanjay Dutt sozzled to the gills, fooling around at his home and talking unabashedly about certain people in the film industry, is going around discreetly among handpicked members of the film fraternity.

The clip was shot when Dutt was out on parole the last time. It could cause considerable embarrassment for the incarcerated actor's family and for the actor himself.

The clip was apparently shot when during his parole period Dutt invited three upcoming superstars (all star-sons incidentally) for dinner to his house.

One of the three young stars, all self-confessed Dutt fans, shot the clip on his phone and has been sending it out to "selected" friends. Of course those selected friends have also been forwarding the clip to their selected friends....and so on.

One of the actor's friends who has received the clip says, "It shows Sanju having a good time at a small dinner party. He is a little high, playing the air guitar, fooling around, talking sh.t about people in the film industry....just harmless banter and fun which is a regular feature at private dinners."

However considering Sanjay Dutt's circumstances the family is understandably embarrassed and livid.

"They are trying to find out which of the three upcoming stars (two of them with the same surname) shot the clip and is sending it out," says the source.
