Pahlaj Nihalani isnt in favour of Shyam Benegal committee

Dealing with issues of piracy and the rigid censorship of Bollywood films, CBFC chief Pahlaj Nihalani is surrounded by a web of controversies. Whilst the Government is chalking out plans in favour of the Shyam Benegal committee, Pahlaj Nihalani expressed his displeasure over the decision.

In a recent interview, Central Board of Film Certification chief Pahlaj Nihalani revealed that if it was left to him he wouldn't have the Shyam Benegal committee to have it their way. The said committee, as reported before, recommended a 'holistic framework of certification of films' which also brings back the Cinematography Act of 1952 as an integral part whilst certifying a film. However, not agreeing to the same, Pahlaj believes that it is a redundant law that fails to meet the demands of new age cinema. Maintaining that complete freedom of expression is a myth in any country, Pahlaj continues to stress on the need to retain our culture and values adding that if the Government wants to protect them then they must abide by the laws laid by them. He also asserts that laws should be held at the highest regard and that everyone should be required to follow the guidelines since the lawmakers are aware of what is best for everyone.

Singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya bailed out after being arrested for abusing on social media

Earlier we had reported that Singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya got himself into trouble after an AAP member Preeti Sharma Menon accused him of using obscene language on social media against a woman journalist. Further, she complained against him after he abused her on the micro-blogging site. And now we hear that Abhijeet was arrested by Mumbai Police and was later bailed by his son.

In fact, Preeti Sharma confirmed the same in a series of tweets as it read, ". @mumbaipolice arrested @abhijeetsinger on my complaint on 26/07, released him on bail later. Serves him right @bainjal. @abhijeetsinger's phone confiscated, sent for forensics. Cops made Twitter order him to delete offensive tweets or shut handle @bainjal." She further also added, "I feel women shd register complaints against abuse in any form. @abhijeetsinger's arrest is a big step towards cleaning up SM." On the other hand, Abhijeet Bhattacharya continued his campaign against the AAP member on social media as he too posted a few tweets saying, "I'm a man,a son,a dad,a bro trolled n abused by lady presstitute & her Paki frnds abused my nation whom to contact ? Long ago but I never asked any support from any 1, paying a heavy price in B'wood 4 being a nationalist since years." Preeti also tweeted about Abhijeet's son bailing him out adding,s "Shame on a man whose son has to bail him out on a case of abusing women #AbuserAbhijeetArrested." She later thanked the police officials for their co-operation and investigation saying, "Thank you @CPMumbaiPolice, DCP Patil of Cyber Crime is an effective officer, quick action against SM abuse. @bainjal."

From what we hear, the said arrest was made after singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya was charged under sections 500 (punishment for defamation), 509 (intension to outrage the modesty of a woman) of IPC and 67 of the IT Act. Reportedly, according to DCP Sachin Patil (Cyber Department) the arrest was made on the basis of online abuse and he received bail since it was a bailable offence.

Jackie Shroff to feature in Konkani film Soul Curry

While acting in regional language cinema isn't new for this Bollywood veteran, Jackie Shroff is equally excited to make his Konkani debut. Jackie Shroff will star in the forthcoming release Soul Curry, produced by Michael Mascrenhas.

Known for Bollywood films like Hero, Dharma, Tridev, Khalnayak, Parinda, Devdas among others, Jackie Shroff has acted in films over nine languages including Kannada, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Oriya, Punjabi, Marathi and even Bengali. And now revealing details of his role in his Konkani debut, Jackie added that he plays the role of an arrogant saxophone player named Philip. Talking about the preparations, the actor mentioned that he did have help on the sets to get his accent right for the film. While the film that also stars Seema Biswas explores the dynamic nature of music industry due to the development of technology, Jackie plays a musician who loses work due to changing trends of the music world.

On the other hand, Jackie Shroff continues to work in regional cinema and is looking forward for his upcoming Punjabi film Sardar Saab and Tamil film Mayavan.

Disney Indias Bollywood wing to shut down

While earlier there have been speculations about the CEO of the Disney India, Siddharth Roy Kapur's resignation, yet another news that has spread like wild fire is about the closure of the Bollywood wing of this reputed production house. With films like PK and ABCD 2 to its credit, Disney India we hear is all set to shut down the Hindi production wing of the company.

Though there has been no official statement from the production house, it is being said that the company has been contemplating about taking this decision for a while. Despite its repertoire showcasing a series of blockbusters, UTV Disney has been giving a series of misses that include films like Tamasha, Fitoor and the recently released Mohenjo Daro. In fact, the Ashutosh Gowariker directorial which was made on a lavish budget couldn't withstand the competition at the box office and it is being said that it has succumbed to severe losses. On the other hand, we hear that the production house will not be taking up Bollywood projects besides the ones which are already under its wings. The last few forthcoming Bollywood releases from the production house include the much awaited Aamir Khan starrer Dangal as well as the much delayed Ranbir Kapoor - Katrina Kaif starrer Jagga Jasoos.

However, it has been learnt that considering the past few successes of Hollywood releases from the Disney franchise in India that include fantasy adventure The Jungle Book and the superhero saga Captain America: Civil War, the company has plans to retain its Hollywood wing in the country and continue to present the same.

Parineeti Chopra gets replaced by Olympic medalist Sakshi Malik for Beti Bachao Campaign

While she took the nation by a storm at Rio Olympics 2016 recently, wrestler Sakshi Malik has now become the face of Haryana's Beti Bachao Campaign. In 2015, it was Parineeti Chopra who was roped in as the ambassador for the same.

Though the reasons for the sudden change hasn't been revealed, we hear that Parineeti who has been busy with her work commitments, hasn't been able to dedicate too much of her time to the campaign. Interestingly, the fact also remains that Sakshi Malik hails from Rohtak district of Haryana which further persuaded the Government to arrive at this decision.

Last seen in Kill Dil, Parineeti Chopra was on a sabbatical for a while and will now return to the silverscreen with Meri Pyaari Bindu. However, she recently did a special appearance in the action film Dishoom where she appeared along with Varun Dhawan in the song 'Jaaneman Aah'.
